Lauri Miller - Year Word

I struggle mightily with a Year Word selection. I heard someone call it a Nudge Word and thought hmmm, maybe that would help me select a good word and remember it, but no, sorry, I am not magnetic, and I just can't get the words to STICK through the year. We shall see how I do this year, HA! I have finally settled on the word Light. My thought is that this applies to my photography in the hopes it makes me pay extra special attention to the light as I plan and take my photos. It also applies to life and how I live it. I intend to have more fun this year with travel and photography and making art. I intend to keep things LIGHT!

Lauri Miller - Cold

I froze an African Violet blossom in a large square ice cube (Whiskey anyone?). I placed this on light blue vintage glassware, with other glass pieces from the same collection around to reflect the light. The darkest part is the "back end" of the blossom where it connects to a stem. I used a texture from 2 Lil Owls called "2LO Mercury Glass 6".

Lauri Miller - Back-to-Back

The old, crumbling café had looked nondescript outside the door, but inside it was awash with candlelight and motion. The mood was intense with anticipation while the music thrummed through the audience as they watched the performance with exhilaration. The dancers were twirling faster and faster, throwing their voluminous purple and white skirts high in the air, around and around they went, back-to-back the dancers passed by our table as we tried to remember to breathe. Again, the violets came out to play this week. They usually have a group of blossoms together which came to mind for this week’s challenge. I had fun playing with textures to set a moody background. In this case two from 2 Lil Owls (Stained 2 – Plaster Collection 16 and Chestnut 4). The photo was taken in fairly bright light coming through a window. This allowed the white of the petals to give off that pretty bokeh reflection.
